To schedule rooms and subjects for experiments involving Psych 1 students, use the Experimentrak system:
1. Go to http://psychology.stanford.edu/participate.html
2. Click on "Create/Schedule an experiment" under the "Experimenters" heading.
3. Log-in with your SUNET ID and password.
4. Click on the "Lab Studies" tab at the top of the Experimentrak main page.
5. Click on
to create a new experiment.
6. Follow the steps on the next page to setup a new experiment and schedule timeslots. Be sure to remember what times and rooms you selected to use - you will need to re-enter this information in the Cognation scheduler in the next step.
7. To avoid any room and time conflicts with paid subjects, you'll need to also book the rooms and times in the Cognation scheduler. To do so, please follow steps 1-3 below.
- You do not need to re-enter all the experiment info - just check off the times and rooms. However, entering your name/e-mail address will be helpful so that other members of the lab can know who has booked certain times and rooms.
To schedule rooms and subjects for experiments involving paid human subjects, use our online scheduling program:
1. Go to http://cognation.stanford.edu/private/schedule
2. Check off the times and rooms that you want to schedule yourself for, and then click submit.
3. Fill out the form and submit it. Be careful to enter everything correctly; you won't have a chance to check it over once you hit submit.
- Email address: make sure it's correct and include the @stanford.edu. This is so that subjects can email you if necessary.
- Phone number: subjects will need to call you so you can let them in after 6 pm or on a weekend.
- Experiments: make sure you are consistent, or else you'll have subjects showing up to participate in "clam 2" or "clam-2" who have already participated in "clam2". Skip needless spaces and dashes. If you want to prevent people from participating in a new version of the same experiment, consider putting "clam,clam2" for one version, and "clam,clam3" for another; the "clam" part will keep people from signing up for both.
- Type of subjects: This is not really that hard. If you want English speaking subjects, check English, and nothing else. If you want Turkish speakers, check that instead. If you check multiple languages, you will get subjects who speak one or more of those languages.
- Number of simultaneous subjects: for a normal experiment, choose "two" for each room for maximum efficiency. If the experiment is such that the subject must be alone in the room (for example, if the subject is repeating sentences out loud), then choose "one" for each room. If you don't want subjects to sign up online, for example, if you just want to use the room for your own purposes at that time, or if you want to schedule subjects the old fashioned way (by asking them to come in at that time), then choose "none".
4. To get subjects to actually sign up, you must send out emails to psych-subjects@lists.stanford.edu and post fliers telling them to go to http://cognation.stanford.edu/schedule. Be sure to include the following information in your e-mail posting:
- A subject header for your post so subjects know you are advertising for an experiment
- Your name
- The name of your PI
- Your contact information
- A short description of the experiment
- Reimbursement information (if any)
- Requirements for participation
- Location of the experiment
5.If you want to view the schedule in more detail or make changes, go to http://cognation.stanford.edu/private/schedule and click the date at the top that you want to view in detail. You can delete subjects from the schedule (in case they email you and cancel), or delete yourself (in case you don't need the room at that time anymore).
Enjoy!
