Running Subjects


(before the first subject)

1. Be there 30 minutes before your first subject is scheduled to arrive.
 
2. Make sure you have enough consent forms.
Copies can be found in 310 or in the "Lab Forms" folder on the data volume of the fileserver, in case you need more.
3. Make sure there are several working pens in the lab room. 

4. If you are going to be paying subjects, make sure you have sufficient funds and a copy of the "Human Subject Clearing Form" (with the consent forms in 310).


(for each computer)

5. Turn off AppleTalk
Click on the Apple menu (top left of screen) and drag down to “Chooser”. In Chooser window click on AppleTalk Inactive (bottom right of window). Close Chooser.
6. Turn off Virtual Memory
Click on the Apple menu (top left of screen) and drag down to “Control Panels” - keep the mouse button down to select “Memory”. If Virtual Memory is already off, just close the memory window. If Virtual memory is on, turn it off & restart the computer.
7. Disconnect from the file server by dragging all the file server volumes to the trash.
 
8. Start up the Experiment on the computer.
 
9. Make sure that all the right stickies are on the keyboard where they should be.


(when each subject arrives)

10. Ask subject to fill out consent form. Ask if they would like a copy to keep.
 
11. Give instructions & proceed with experiment.
 
12. (Psyscope Experiments Only) When the subject is done, press “q” to get out of the experiment.
 
13. Open a web browser and have the subject fill out the online language questionnaire: http://cognation.stanford.edu/languages/index.php
 
14. (Psyscope Experiments Only) If for some reason you need to interrupt the experiment, hold down “open-apple” and press“period"
 
15. (For Paid Subjects Only) When all done, pay the subject and have them fill out a line on the Human Subject Clearing Form, making sure to indicate how much their payment was.


(after the last subject)

16. Close the experiment on the computer.
 
17. Fill out the Master Subjects list http://cognation.stanford.edu/instructions/addsubject.html
 
18. Open all data files and replace “Power Macintosh” with the name of the computer http://cognation.stanford.edu/instructions/replacePowerMacintosh.html
 
19. Move all your data to the fileserver manually merging new data files with old ones http://cognation.stanford.edu/instructions/fileserver.html
 
20. Tidy up lab room.
 
21. Put all the filled out consent-forms in the filled-out consent forms file in 310.
